Transforming Sentimental Gold
Our goldsmiths are regularly tasked with turning sentimental family gold into new pieces of jewellery so it can be worn and enjoyed again. Heated to 1100°C in a crucible, your gold will be melted to create an ingot, forming the basis for your next piece of jewellery to be handmade by our team.

Frequently Asked Questions
What metals can you melt?
We melt gold and platinum, provided it is hallmarked and hasn't been melted and remade into a new piece of jewellery before.
Gold which hasn't been hallmarked can be used, however it can be a little more unpredictable to work with as we don't know how it has been mixed with other metals.
When it comes to white gold, whilst it can be melted and remade into new pieces, we prefer not to as it can be quite challenging to work with.
It is important to mention that, for all melt and make pieces, there is a very small chance that the process doesn't work. We will always discuss this with you before going ahead with a melt and make project.
What happens with excess metal?
If you have more metal than is required to make your new item of jewellery, we will weigh the excess and provide you with a value, based on the latest gold or platinum prices. You can then choose whether to have the metal returned to you, or deducted from the cost of making your new piece of jewellery.
What can you make?
When it comes to melt and make items, where possible we suggest design options and ideas which are not overly labour intensive, otherwise the cost of making the item can become prohibitive.
We will always work with you to come up with innovative ways to include your metal into your design, even if your design idea includes complex elements.
For example, if you would like to use your sentimental gold in an engagement ring, we would use your metal to make the band, and incorporate a cast head to set your stones into.
If you have an idea in mind, the best thing to do is to bring your sentimental gold or platinum into us to be appraised, and speak with one of our jewellers to discuss what is possible, and how we could bring your jewellery vision to life.
